Romualdo: Unvaccinated account most COVID deaths in Camiguin
From the 36 deaths due to coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 in the province as of August 13, Gov. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo said most of the fatalities are unvaccinated of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Currently, there are 12,637 who were inoculated with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines while 9,064 have received the second dose. For senior citizens, 3,059 have taken the first dose and 2,579 got the second dose.
"Dapat kita sa Camiguin paspas gyud ta aron makabalik gyud ta (sa ekonomikanhon kalihukan). Kung ikaw wala kay pakialam, maluoy ka sa atong healthcare frontliners.
(People in Camiguin must be swift in availing the COVID-19 vaccines so we can go back to moving our economy. If you do not care, have pity on our healthcare frontliners. Let us get vaccinated and let us stay at home)
Further encouraging locals to get vaccinated, Romualdo said the Department of Health (DOH) reported that out of 11.7 million who were vaccinated, only 735 deaths were recorded and mostly are due to severe illnesses or comorbidities.
As for government interventions to contain the spread of COVID-19, the province's reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratory is nearing its completion as all equipment necessary for testing are already in place in the facility.
"Naa na ta'y PCR testing lab. Salamat nga gitutukan gyud ta. Pero bisan pa lage ug naa na tanan, dili gyud ka kampante kung dili gyud ka ma-vaccine," Romualdo added.
(We already have a PCR testing lab. We are very thankful that we are of primary concern. However, even if we have everything that is needed for testing, you should not remain complacent until you are vaccinated)
