Some 180 villages in Misamis Oriental have received a total of P18 million cash aid through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, wife of Senate Minority Leader Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel, led the two-day distribution of AICS in the towns of Tagoloan, Villanueva, Claveria, Kinoguitan, Balingasag, Laguindingan, and Initao, including Gingoog City on November 14 and 15.
"It feels very good na makapunta sa birthplace ni Tatay Nene Pimentel and bilin sa akin ni Senator Koko na physically puntahan ang Misamis Oriental at magbigay ng tulong. Sabi niya bilangin lahat ng barangay at dapat mabigyan lahat," Yu-Pimentel said.
Yu-Pimentel explained that the village chiefs will have to identify the beneficiaries of the cash assistance.
Aside from AICS, Yu-Pimentel also received requests from the different local chief executives such as additional classrooms and public markets, among others.
She said the Office of Senator Pimentel will try its best to allocate funds for the said requests as these are also part of his priority projects.
Yu-Pimentel said the two-day distribution is the last for 2022 and they will resume next year.
She said they will go to the provinces of Zamboanga, Surigao and other areas in Mindanao and Visayas to distribute AICS.
"Babalik din kami ng MisOr para puntahan yung di pa namin napuntahan. We are grateful na close friends sina Senator Koko and DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo kaya sabi as long as kaya ng agency na tumulong at mag-allocate for the constituents ng mga senators they will help and give," Yu-Pimentel said.
