Normin economy task group fast-tracks safety seal, farm productivity, tech support
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY --The Northern Mindanao Economy Task Group heightens implementation of safety seal, farm productivity, financial and technology support to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to regain economic momentum amid COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 164 approved safety seal certification has been issued by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to business establishments in the region with Bukidnon (31), Camiguin (6), Lanao del Norte (21), Misamis Occidental (17), Misamis Oriental (89) who are compliant to the minimum public health standards set by the government and uses contact tracing with StaySafe.ph.
Ermedio J. Abang, officer-in-charge regional director of DTI-10, head of the Economy Task Group during a zoom meeting said there are still pending approval (19), for inspection (16) and denied (33) for this certificate.
Under COVID-Proofing of Business, DTI has also assisted barangays under its Livelihood Seeding Program (LSP) Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (NSB) with 201 barangays and 2,334 MSMEs assisted.
Business sector is among the priorities of the economy task group.
From April to September 2021, based on the monitoring of investments from DTI Business Name registration, 2,161 have applied for new business in the region with 26,202 jobs generated.
Low/no interest business loans have been approved to 666 applicants with a total of P153.41M through the Bayanihan CARES program by the government.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) meanwhile, has approved 361 firms for Technology assistance under Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading (SETUP).
The Food Innovation Center has served 129 firms through food innovation services and developed 26 food products.
A total of 19 agricultural livelihood associations have been approved for assistance through Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology and assisted firms to get online through its online app One Store PH.
DOST through OROBEST-Business Recovery Innovation for Development and Growth of Enterprise (BRIDGE) has also formulated a total of 10 business recovery plans for distressed MSMEs.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) meanwhile continues to support farmers to restart social and economic activities with a critical task on farm productivity.
The department has distributed 1,379,696 kgs of rice seeds with 32,096 beneficiaries served, 17,928kgs corn seeds to 106 Local Government Units (1,321 individuals for seeds and 2,100 farmers for fertilizers.
In terms of livestock, a total of 13,796 heads (free range chicken), 2,718 heads (ready to lay), 264 imported dairy goats and 25 native animals and 9 bulls distributed.
The department has also established four cattle feedlot production farms with 400 heads cattle, two goat multiplier farms, distributed 14,015 kgs forage seeds and 72,150 kgs poultry feeds and served 832 individuals and 28 LGUs, and 10 associations.
DA has also distributed 5, 814 kgs high value crops vegetable seed, 285,000 pcs planting materials and served 63 groups, and 5, 372 individuals.
In terms of urban agriculture, DA has helped to establish 32 mushroom production facilities, a monolithic dome, eight units greenhouse with sprinkler, 19 biomass shredders, 16 hand tractors, and served eight cities.
DA also has various support for distribution of vegetable seeds and planting materials, organic agriculture with 162 kgs vegetable seeds distributed and other farm inputs, abaca with 242,793 planting materials distributed and 90 hectares developed and opened, coconut with 952 good quality seedlings distributed and fisheries with 585 fishing gears distributed.
The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) shared that while the economy is spurring, to still avoid the three Cs: Crowded places, Close contact settings and Confined and enclosed spaces. (JMOR/PIA-10)
